Natalie Dunn Feature- Profile Word Count: Senior participates in international competition with DECCA On April 23, Howell

High School senior Morgan Hoskins arrived in Anaheim, California to compete at the international level for DECCA, a competitive marketing program for students. DECCA is an activity which allows students interested in business and marketing to practice their problem-solving abilities in a hypothetical workplace situation. Students are given a scenario, such as how to improve productivity during the holiday season, and are then given ten minutes to prepare a presentation to the judges, the CEOs. After advancing from the district level to the state, students must place first in states to move up to international, which is referred to as ICDC. This year, Hoskins was one of 16,000 students participating in ICDC, which took place in Anaheim, California. She made the trip with Mr. Roidan, the DECCA advisor for HHS, and two other seniors, Hans Pietila and Kathleen Pennala. Pietila and Pennala didnt compete in ICDC, but completed projects for the competition which allowed them to attend as well. It was very competitive[but] we met tons of new people, says Hoskins enthusiastically. While there, the three mingled with other students from DECCA and exchanged pins which represented their state of origin. We took pictures with everyone we exchanged pins with, so we have those memories. As part of the trip, Hoskins and the others received free three-day passes to Disneyland. It was really cool, because even in Disneyland, wed see other people there for the competition, and wed yell out DECCA! and it just felt like we were really united. Aside from her time spent preparing for DECCA competitions, Hoskins has a loaded schedule. She is dual-enrolled at the University of Michigan, and is taking three AP classes, as well as Spanish IV. Also, she plays soccer year-round, and is a member of the National Honor Society (NHS) and student council. I dont really remember the last time I watched TV, she laughs. I really try to spend any free time I do have with my family and friends, and boyfriend, Danny. Hoskins plans on going to school for a degree in international business, and will be attending U of M in the fall. Shell also be playing on their soccer team in her sophomore year, and plans on participating in DECCA at the college level.
