Tanvi Patel Mr.Lopez Spanish II 6B 11/19/10 Mi Familia 1. The movie takes place in 1930s, 1950s, and 1970s 2.

The movie takes place mostly in California. Most of the scenes are on the east side of LA. The setting looks hilly and there are many people everywhere. 3. My favorite character in the movie is Jimmy. Jimmy was introduced in the movie as the loved youngest child. He loves his brother Chucho very much. Jimmy watches his older brother get killed and that scars him for life. One day when he gets the chance to get back at the system he takes it and marries Isabel to save her from deportation. At first there is no love but slowly, Jimmy falls in love with Isabel. When Isabel is giving birth, she dies. This leaves Jimmy very angry. Afterwards he gets caught looting a store and is put in jail. When he is finally released, he tries to get his son to love him, but it does not work. Finally, Carlitos accepts Jimmy. Throughout the story, Jimmy grows. He begins as a loving boy. Then he becomes full of anger. Next he falls in love, and has happiness. Once again happiness is taken from him and he becomes hateful. At the end he loves again thanks to his son. 4. Mexican family values are based upon dignity, and pride. American ideals are portrayed as money obsessed and respect. 5. The movie teaches us that family values are extremely important. At the end of the day when all else is lost, this is all you are left with. 6. Yes the movie depicts the average Mexican familys struggle in America at the time. They had to fight for their rights and then fight to keep the Mexican values in their children 7. Chucho was strong-headed and thought that only he was right. That was his downfall. He did not want to listen to his father and so he made stupid mistakes with his life. These mistakes led to his own death, and the death of the old Jimmy. 8. The movie was good. It was interesting and taught a lesson. The characters in the movie were realistic and it did not show an ideal family. Like all families, this one had problems too and movie did not hide that fact. Also the movie was serious but it had funny parts which made more and more interesting to watch. The movie also portrayed many generations of the family. We saw the parents struggle, the older kids struggle and then the younger kids struggle. The was very good.
