Jagatjit Industries Ltd (Jagatjit) was set up in 1944 under the patronage of Jagatjit Singh, the ruler of the state of Kapurthala. In 1947, the company set up a carbon dioxide plant and in 1966, it set up a plant to manufacture malted milk foods. Jagatjit launched Aristocrat whisky in 1968. It introduced Binnies potato chips and set up its plastics business in 1988. packaging division manufactures glass and plastic containers for captive consumption as well as open market sales. Jagatjit also markets petroleum products and khad. It has a plant each in Punjab and Rajasthan and has three plants in UP. In FY05, beverages accounted for 66.3% of revenue and food and packaging accounted for 9.6% and 17.5% of revenue respectively. Petroleum products and khad accounted for the rest.

Operations
Jagatjit has a presence in beverages, foods, packaging and petroleum products. The beverages segment manufactures and markets Indian made foreign liquor, country liquor and industrial alcohol. Its brands include Aristocrat, AC Black and Bonnie Scot. The food division manufactures food products. Some of the companys brands are Binnies spray dried skimmed milk powder and Binnies Pure Ghee. The Year in Review


For the year to Mar 31, 2005, total income decreased to Rs 3.7 bn, down 5.4% over the previous years gure. Net loss was Rs 51.1 mn as compared to prot of Rs 110.3 mn in the corresponding previous year. As per unaudited results for the nine months ended Dec 31, 2005, the company recorded an income of Rs 2.3 bn and a net prot of Rs 57.7 mn as compared with an income of Rs 2.6 bn and a net loss of Rs 61.5 mn in the corresponding period previous year.
