A Pack of Life (APoL)

Chapter 5: The Little World At Night

That is not unusual. Most of us can see stars from their room at night, unless it is starless that night, or its very
cloudy that day. Or else-
No, it is not like that. My nephew says that he can actually see the stars at night, right at the ceiling of his
bedroom

I close my eyes
And I see the stars at night;
I blink my eyes
And everything comes to light

41

Later that night, Myousuke was in his bedroom doing his homework. As he finally finishes his assignments for the
week, he takes a stretch sitting on his desk chair. As he recovers his position, he thinks about how exaggerated Shinji is
going on with his nephew's hallucinations. Just as he was about to forget about it, he sees through the window of his
room and witnesses a thin shadow approaching the fence surrounding their front garden. He then knows that the
meddlesome girl is dropping by his house yet again.
"It's you again."
"Come on, you know you want to ask me about something."
"Did I just hear a hint of sarcasm coming from you which shows that I somewhat am not leading a good life?"
"No, it is this."
Jouhou takes out a Card from her hands, shows Myousuke and places it back into her deck.
Anyway, I have to congratulate you in solving one of your classmates problems. And-
And I do not need weird Cards just to get things done in life.
Now get this: Your life is enough for people to intercept and you to intercept others. Besides, if you insist not to
help yourself, you are just going to land yourself in big trouble. You have been decided to be a pillar of fate for this city
already, Myousuke.
A silence fills the room and a motorbike can be heard rushing past the pathway by the house. Myousuke then
sighs and faces the wall.
Alright. Ill tell you. Its about my classmates nephew. He says he can see the stars at night, right at the ceiling
in his bedroom. Dont you think this is ridiculous?
As he turns back to face Jouhou, she is seen playing around with her smart phone like a geek, seemingly looking
for some information. He then raises his voice.
Hey, are you even listening?
Yes I am.
Jouhou replies him with her eyes still on her phone.
And if you want know more I can always help you by-
No, you dont have to.
Jouhou then stops what she is doing and looks up at Myousukes confident look.
Okay. If that is what you want. Maybe I shouldnt tag along for this after all. See you.
She stands up from her seat and leaves for the door.
Wait, that is all?
Yeah. Im a busy person, you know. Im just here to see whether you are still actively using your brain in
helping others, thats all.
What does that mean?
Ill see you soon then.
Jouhou closes the door gently behind her as she leaves the room. Myousuke sits in awe of how ignorant she is
compared to last time when she visits his abode. He looks out of the window of his room as Jouhou walks away with the
phone to her ear, seemingly talking to someone important from the gestures she makes.
The next morning, Sacchi walks along the corridor in the classroom building and before she approaches the
classroom, she saw a bunch of girls from her class, all eyes upon her and whispering by the window. As she steps into the

42

classroom, the chattering in the classroom quietens with some girls pointing at her and whispering to each other. The
surprised girl immediately feels a sense of uneasiness and quickly approaches Myousukes table, where he is leaning back
on his chair chatting with Shinji.
She places her bag on her seat and walks towards the unknowing boy, with a pair of stern eyes locked on him.
She then stops in front of Myousukes table, one hand she tucks to her waist. She uses her other hand to hit the table
forcefully to attract his attention and bends over closer towards the desk.
Did you tell anyone else about me?
Not that anyone knows of.
Shinji comments, notices he should stay silent, and keeps mum.
Someone in class saw you with your your ex. He threatened me to-
Myousuke stops as he sees someone walk right onto the teachers table.
Talking about your devil.
A spike-haired boy with a tall build talks confidently into the classroom and onto the teachers table, and anyone
would immediately that the only student who has the guts to be standing there has to be the class chairperson.
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Ladies.
He speaks with a brimming smile on his round face, turning left to face a group of girls at the back of the class,
which make them ecstatic and rather uncontrolled. As his eyes scan around the classroom and make contact with Sacchi,
who is staring at him furiously with her arms on her waist, he looks back at the whole class in fright and clears his throat.
Eh, about the class cohesion activity we intend to hold
As he explains the events in class, Sacchi stares back at Myousuke. He nods at her and she immediately turns
over, almost showing her underskirt to the boys.
Hey, Satozashi!
She walks furiously towards the class chairperson as the class all divert their attention to her. Myousuke and
Shinji blush after seeing Sacchi walk away, ignores the epic drama in class and continue their talk.
So, are we going to your nephews tonight to solve his problem? Which coincidentally is more like your aunts
which coincidentally becomes your problem?
Myousuke inquires Shinji as precise as he can remember.
I know, my aunt is bothering me more often these days. Now Yuusuke is getting lazy to wake up, which isnt his
normal self.
Ah! We can go tonight to his house and get him a gift to get in good terms with him. Then we sneak into his
room and-
Not tonight. I have club activities to attend, and Im tired today.
He explains himself as he stretches, lifts up the chair he is sitting on as if it is glued to his back, and moves it
back to his seat. Myousuke ponders in silence as ideas continue to germinate in his brain. The class chairperson retires
and the homeroom teacher takes over.
During English lesson, the teacher is again mumbling from the textbook and writing endlessly on the surprisingly
large blackboard with the very small chalk he has in his fingers. Half the class is almost dozing off, which the other half is
playing around, trying to keep awake, but not getting the teacher suspicious. Myousuke is on neither side; He is wide
awake and trying to understand the textbook himself like one of the minorities in class. He lifts his textbook vertically so
he can follow where the teacher had read. Suddenly, a piece of paper is thrown from somewhere and lands in front of his
textbook. He thinks initially that it is someone passing paper notes again, but sees Shinjis name on it and immediately
hides it. He opens it discreetly, sees a message and scribbles on the paper with one hand on the pen and the other on the
book. He then passes it to the nearby classmate to pass it to his friend.

43

Shinji, like many others, is just creating a mirage of a studious environment. He places his head on his hand on
the desk dozing off with his textbook open. As he almost drops his head onto the table he felt a light hit from his right
and notices a piece of paper on his desk. He sees the adjacent table where many are playing cards, and ignores them. He
takes the paper and sees his name with a circle and cross and only a cross on Myousukes name. He then opens to see
their written conversation:
YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR NEPHEW LIKES AS A PRESENT?
PLUSH TOYS, TEDDY BEARS. WHY?
DIDNT YOU MENTION ABOUT YOUR NEPHEW BEING SHY? HIS BIRTHDAY IS
COMING THIS WEEKEND. HOW ABOUT WE GET A GIFT FOR HIM AND YOU BRING
ME ALONG TO HIS PARTY? WE GET INTO HIS GOOD BOOKS WITH A GIFT AND
THEN GET HIM TO SHOW THAT PHENOMENON TO US?
Shinji puts a sulky face and droopy eyes upon reading the scribbled handwriting. He takes a sigh, picks up his
pencil and writes:
WHATEVER. YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERYTHING, AND WAKE ME UP ON
SATURDAY.
Myousuke receives the paper a while later, sees a line of reply from Shinji and nods to himself. He then notices
the teacher turning around, and in a flash he sits up on his chair, hits his foot on the bottom of the desk, which wakes the
class up fast enough for everyone to wake up. Students who are fooling around also notice the teacher and sits
attentively on their seats. The teacher looks at the attentive class, keeps his stern face, turns back to the board and
continues.

Ive found you! Get back here!

A voice sounds out as a kid is seen running away. He is running along a long passage way leading to the exterior
of a building with glass perimeter overlooking the cityscape. As the kid runs around the edge he is also being chased
around by a teenager.
You wont get away now!
As the kid runs and runs, the distance of the kid gets closer and further due to varying speeds of the kid running
and looking back. As the teenager reaches nearer to the kid, he extends his hands ready to catch the playful child and as
he was inches away from the kid he suddenly trips and lands flat on the ground.
Oomph!
Ouch!
Myousuke wakes up as his head is against the wall beside his bed.
It was merely a dream, huh.
He reaches for his phone and sees the date.
Its Saturday already, huh.
He stares at his phone a moment longer.
Saturday?
He then notices the mail icon on his phone. It is from Shinji, about his nephew.
Oh yes, the gift

44

Not long after, Myousuke arrives at the nearby shopping district to search for a teddy bear, in which Shinji says
is his nephew Yuusukes favourite toy. He quickly enters a store and selects a smaller than average bear amongst the
shelf of cute, cuddly bears in case Shinji denies payment. They leave the store with the bear in a neatly-wrapped gift bag.
That afternoon, Myousuke arrives at Shinjis apartment and sees no one at the lobby. He then finds the
apartment using the note on his phone, lightly taps the door and it opens slightly to reveal Shinji.
Take a seat. Itll take a while.
Myousuke waits by a couch while Shinji returns back to his room. A moment later, he hears a turning door knob
from the silence and turns around to see Shinji.
Ok, Im done. Lets go.
He locks the apartment door up, taps Myousuke on the shoulder who is looking out of the parapet and they both
leave the house. They walk along the main road towards the nearest bus stop.
You got the present?
Yeah.
Myousuke assures him, showing the gift bag he brought.
Wow that looks quite big. Looks like I will have to pay quite a lot for this.
Come on, its not like you are buying this anyway. You just produce the cash. You told me to do everything
because-
Because Im lazy to do it.
Just like a sloth.
Well not quite the case. In my case I do not sleep on trees.
Wow that makes you so remarkably human.
Myousuke draws some sarcasm he learned from Shinji.
Thank you. You have learnt quite a lot from me, huh.
Myousuke looks away like a snob, and incidentally sees a shop under renovation with a sign brought in by
construction workers. When Myousuke notices it to be another A Pack of Life store he wants to approach it to know
more.
Hey, where are you going? The bus is here!
Myousuke looks at the shop in renovation and then quickly rushes to the bus stop. They both board it which
takes them to the southern part of the city, where many bungalows reside along a road full of parked cars. The sun sets
to a beautiful twilight as they walk towards their destination. Myousuke stares upwards. Nothing can be seen in the sky
except one star.

Not even the moon can be seen. Its a perfect day to test whether Shinjis nephew is blabbering nonsense.
Upon reaching one of the larger bungalows, Myousuke is stunned by the topiary decorations and the size of the
garden surrounding the main building.
Wow. He has well-to-do parents?
Its his father. He works in America and does not come back often so Aunt takes care of everything.
face.

Shinji explains as they enter the front door, welcomed by a slightly plump yet voluptuous teenager with a cute
Wow, he has well-to-do sisters too, huh?

45

Mom, Shinjis here!

The girl calls out towards the large living hall. Amongst the party crowd, a middle-age plump female turns
around, sees Shinji and walks towards the boys.
Myousuke, this is my aunt.
How do you do?
Shinjis aunt smiles with benevolence and speaks with a light tone.
So sorry for letting you guys come so early, but I told your mother that Yuusuke really is really behaving in a
weird manner. Why not Shinji go see him in his room? Come.
Yes.
Both of the boys nod in agreement.
As they proceed to walk down the alley to the rooms, out rushes a kid with short, untidy hair as he bumps on
Shinji.
Yuu-chan!
Shinji puts down the present and hugs his nephew upon seeing him. Yuusuke replies with a rather soft voice.
Shinji! I have got something to show you.
And what might that be?
him.

Yuusuke stares at his cousins friend, and Myousuke takes the hint. He gives Shinji a hand signal to go along with
My friend shall wait outside, okay?

Almost immediately Yuusuke pulls Shinji with a strong tug, and Shinji not forgetting to bring the present along
is dragged to his room in a matter of seconds. Once Myousuke sees the door to Yuusukes room closed, he quickly
moves up to eavesdrop to notice the door is not fully closed. He holds the knob and peeks to see the happenings inside
the room.
See what I got you for your birthday
Before he can even take the teddy bear out, he sees Yuusuke shuffling things in his desk drawer and takes out a
wooden music box. He then brings it to his bed and Shinji moves to sit beside him.
This.
Yuusuke presents his treasured music box to his cousin. After a quick look, he then takes it back and opens it to
reveal a ballerina spinning with music sounding out of the box. At the same time, Shinji looks by the door and sees
Myousuke.
Wow, what a nice music box.
This is no ordinary box, Shinji.
Shinji raises his voice to make himself sound throughout the bedroom.
Oh dont tell me you can use this to see stars in your room?
Shinji tries to crack a joke and notices he made the wrong step.
How do you know? Did Mom tell you about it?
Well, I-

46

Yuusuke gets into a grunt.

This is supposed to be a secret! I will not share it with you anymore!
No, I was just-
Yuusuke, who is spouting furiously at Shinji, heightens his sight and saw Myousuke by the door, his body already
half inside the room. He then shuts his music box and places it on the table. Shinji felt it awkward of Yuusuke to do this,
and he pushes his cousin out of the room into the alley along with Myousuke. They both took a few steps to the opposite
wall in the corridor as Yuusuke closes his room door shut and with a click, locks the door.
Haha Dont worry. I came to do this against my will.
He stares towards the crowd in the main hall and pats Myousuke on his shoulder.
Well just wait until the partys over. Lets go.
After the party and when everyone is dismissed, Myousuke and Shinji are seen sitting down on a sofa at the far
end of the hall. Yuusuke and his mother are at the door sending off the last guest, and after he has done so immediately
rushes into his room. Shinji and Myousuke quietly stand up and walk towards the kids room.
As they approach the door, Myousuke signals to Shinji that he is going to move on ahead, and moves towards
the door. He turns the knob slowly and opens big enough to give a view of what is inside the room. As they both peek
into the room, they saw an image that stuns them almost immediately.
The room is filled with stars in the ceiling. The curtains are drawn and no other source of light can be seen
entering the room or in the room. Yuusuke places the opened music box on his chest lying perpendicular to his bed. As he
stares at the ceiling the stars in his room start to rotate slowly and glimmer. The music coming from the music box sets
the scene of what one would see on a starry night

As the boys walk home on the open street towards the bus stop, they both stare at the starless night sky. Then
Shinji looks towards Myousuke.
Was that really?
I have no idea.

Maybe I should go ask Jouhou about this.

Myousuke enters his home and straight into his bedroom. He goes straight to his bed, heaving a sigh of relief
that the day is over. In his almost pitch black room, suddenly the room lights are on and he sits up to see Jouhou
appearing in front of his very eyes.
Hey, you-
I read my Divination Cards and noticed one of them has not been activated yet, and then I noticed I have to
use it to visit you on something. So, may I know what it is, dear Card Guardian-to-be?
Myousuke is about to talk about what he saw today, cannot help but notice that Jouhou is loosely wearing her
pyjamas. Eh, is there such a rush for anything that you leave your house and come to mine in your pyjamas?
I told you I saw a Card that tells me someone around me is going to get worried, so I came to find you
immediately. As you can see I am about to sleep so, go ahead and tell me what happened.
Myousuke has a lot of thoughts circulating around his head, but ignores them and starts to explain the
phenomenon he saw at Yuusukes bedroom, while not taking his eyes off the girls cute outfit in front of him. He then
thinks that it may be due to something in the music box creating a spotlight effect, showing the starry effect towards the
ceiling.
Hmm I have heard that Card before

47

Jouhou finds the effect familiar and dons out her phone.
What are you doing?
Oh this phone is my database. I keep Cards I see in them to I could recognise them the next time.
She stumbles upon an image browsing on her phone gallery.
See, here it is. Starry Night.
What is that?
Oh seriously you should start remembering Cards already. This, in summary, is just a Card with illusion effects,
as opposed to Cards affecting ones thought and behaviour. These Cards are okay to be held on our hands, but to
someone I have no idea of Did he use the Card or did the effect just appear over a period of time?
Myousuke recalls the scene he witnesses with Shinji.
He was lying down on his bed and the phenomenon took effect.
Well then obviously we have to take it away from him.
What?
Myousuke suddenly stands up to Jouhous surprise.
If a Card were to be on someone with barely enough Will to use them, we call them Card Holders. They are not
supposed to have possession of Cards, and yet they do. Most likely the Card is kept in an object or some disguise so that
the person believes that the item or disguise is creating an effect.
Oh now I remember. He was telling Shinji that the music box he was holding was special.
Well, there you have it.
Someone who is not supposed to be in possession of a Card gets a Card via having a music box in it would most
likely contain the Card effect.
Myousuke sits down on his bed.
But why cant we just leave it with them? It does not create any devastating effect, and does no harm to
anyone else in any way.
The problem is not about affecting others in this case, but more about himself. You see, using the Card
unknowingly for a long period of time would cause it to be activated naturally, which potentially drains his Will and make
him lose his Will to live. Take it like a drug abuser kind of way.
Shinjis aunt did mention before that Yuusuke was feeling under the weather for some time already.
Myousuke backs her explanation up. He then notices this APoL thing is starting to make sense.
Furthermore, using the Card without noticing means he would be exerting Will at any time and place, attracting
Card Abusers towards him, which is not a good idea in my opinion.
She crosses her arms in deep thought.
Then what can we do to help him then?
Well you can start by finding out where the Card is hidden in the music box Yuusuke-chan has, and just
removing it would solve the problem. But I must remind you that you do this removal by yourself, unless you want your
friend to be the next Card Holder.
Jouhou gives a yawn and walks towards the rooms door.
Well then, I shall leave it to you guys. Good night.

48

As the door closes in front of Myousuke, he resumes his lying position and looks into the ceiling. He then gives
up on thinking as he leaves his bed and reaches for the wardrobe to prepare for sleep.
The new week arrives, Myousuke comes to school just minutes before school starts and takes a seat while taking
out books from his bag. Sacchi looks as he sits down; she then stands up and walks to his desk. She confronts him in an
authoritative manner.
Hey, where have you been last Saturday night? Ive been calling you and I got no reply from you!
Himiko, who was reading a book on her seat, hears Sacchi and covers her face in the book while peeping at
them.
Why should I report my movements to-
Before he could look at Sacchi, she moves herself right to his ear.
Its been so lonely. Ive been missing you, Myousuke-san.
Myousuke then turns from a face of shock into a blush, which Himiko witnesses. Her eyes are wide open as she
lifts her face out of the book in shock.
Sa-
Sacchi then notices her friend looking at the couple. She stuns and hurriedly moves back to her seat, where the
English teacher walks in slowly into the class. He then starts to nag about the class English results being the most
pathetic in the cohort. Shinji then looks out of the window.
For those who are insulting and complaining out there obviously are not sick of it yet. Even at his age. He then
is the pathetic one, really.
Lessons eventually pass by and it is lunch time. As the boys did not have any packed lunches with them, they
decide to go to the canteen. Myousuke walks to Shinjis table as he is packing his stuff from his desk.
Are you done? Shall we go to the canteen? It will be packed soon.
Okay, just a while, yes?
Oh, well.
Myousuke sits by the desk next to Shinji, looks to the front of the classroom and sees Sacchi still copying notes
from the blackboard, with her hand phone on her desk. Himiko walks by Sacchis table.
Ill meet you at the usual place, okay?
Sacchi nods and continues her copying.
Myousuke walks to Sacchis desk, crosses over and sits facing the back of the chair in front of her. He then
quickly snatches her phone off the desk and starts tapping on it. Sacchi looks up and sees Myousuke playing with her
phone.
Hey! What are you doing?
She stretches her hands over to Myousuke and tries to get her phone back, with much resistance from Myousuke
as she only grabs the back of his palms than her own phone. They both go into a struggle and start making Oohs and
Aahs as Myousuke tries to see the contents of her phone and Sacchi wanting to pull it away from him. Shinji stands up,
walks up to the couple and looks upon them.
What on Earth are you two doing flirting in public?
Sacchi then notices her hand on Myousukes and immediately lets her hands off. She then stretches her open
palm to demand him to hand her phone back. Myousuke laughs dryly, closes the phone and returns her the phone. He
then stands up quickly and drags Shinji along with him out of the classroom. As they reach out of the room Myousuke lets
off his hand.

49

Hey. Today were released early and I dont have club activities.
I know. Same goes for me.
After the last bell rings across the school, Myousuke and Shinji are seen waiting at a bus stop close to their
school. Myousuke looks at his watch and taps his foot.
Damn how long is this bus going to take? Hey Shinji, when is Yuusuke-chan going to reach home today?
My aunt mentioned Yuu-chan has extra classes on Mondays so will not arrive home that early.
Then we had better get on to it. Where the heck is the bus?
The sun shines down as the shadow cast on a lamppost continues to extend. Not long after, the boys appear at
the main gate and in the room of Yuusuke. They look at each other. On their own cue, they start to search the room for
that music box. Shinji, knowing where the location precisely is, went straight for the desk drawer.
Ah, here it is.
Shinji takes the box out and looks back to Myousuke, where in shock he sees the room in a mess.
Hey. Just because the familys rich does not mean you can make a mess, you know.
Myousuke, looking at the mess he made on the floor, places his hand behind his head, scratching and laughing
dryly. He sees the item and immediately crawls up to his friend.
Pass it to me. This is not something that you can do.
He takes it from Shinji and starts flipping the box around like it is empty and stares at everything on its wooden
surface. Just as the boys are at the job, the engine of a car can be heard from afar. Shinji opens the curtains quickly and
sees a limousine parked by the main door. He slides the curtains back and alerts Myousuke.
I think hes back.
Myousukes eyes open wide as he hears Shinjis words. He then places the box down and the boys quickly start
to clean up the mess on the floor, but as they clean up, a sudden turn of the door knob surprises them as they both look
towards the door. Yuusuke sees the boys and his room in a mess, rushes out of his room starts shouting Mom! all over
the house, but finds no one. The boys quickly catch up and Myousuke grabs hold of Yuusukes hand.
Yuusuke turns around, flings his hand away in anger.
What the hell are you doing in my room??
No, we are just-
We are just trying to help you.
Myousuke snatches Shinjis reply to the kid.
No you are not! You have made a mess of my room, how dare you say you are helping me! You bunch of
thieves! Ill tell Mom about it when she comes back
What my friend says here is right. Your mother sees you depressed lately and neglecting your sleep, so we
came to-
What? Im fine, understand? And Im not depressed or anything!
Look, Yuusuke. If you dont help to save your life no one else can help you already-
Save what? My life is great without you! Shinji too!
Shinji points to himself in surprise, thinking he is to be blamed too for this incident.

50

Hey, listen when people older than you talk.

A fat lady appears in the front door to interrupt the argument. Yuusuke sees his mother, gives her an infuriated
face and rushes to his room, locking the room door behind him.

Okay, Ill settle this once and for all.

You sound like you are ready to do anything.
In Myousukes room, Jouhou was standing by the desk with her hand on it to support herself. Myousuke is sitting
on his bed, hearing in disbelief.
What can you do, when the both of us cannot handle this stubborn kid? Besides, I did not see anything like a
slid or hole on the outside of that music box the kid has.
That does not mean there isnt one inside the box.
Jouhou enlightens the unknowing Card Guardian, who then notices he did not even open up the box to look
inside.
But then dont you even consider his emotions?
You ask me? I think its about time for him to let go.
Jouhou replies with a frown in her face, which caught Myousukes attention. She then cheers up.
Besides, that is how the many Card Yielders did it anyway. Its for their own good. Well, have a nice sleep
tonight, and itll be over by tomorrow.
She steps out of his room and as she was about to close the door reminds him to tell Shinji.
Wait. Should I tell them that you are dropping by?
Jouhou sees Myousuke in silence.
There will be no need. They will not even notice when Im dropping by anyway. Good night.
Outside in the open, Jouhou looks at the starry night sky and then at the house Myousuke was mentioning. She
looks at her smart phone which shows the time to be five minutes to midnight. She then looks at the house and says
nonchalantly to herself.
Sorry for intruding~
Inside the abode, some bumps can be heard on the main door and with a twist of a door knob Jouhou manages
to enter the house. The place is pitch-black, which signals to her that the whole family has turned in for the night. As she
blinks both her eyes, their sclera (white part covering the rest of the eye besides the pupil) suddenly emit a green glow,
which makes her see the room as clear as daylight. She walks down the hallway for the doors, and upon opening one she
sees a young boy sleeping, his back facing the wall. She walks in quietly and sees a music box lying on the desk beside
the bed. It is still open but nothing can be heard. As she holds the box, a beam of light suddenly appears on the surface
of the box, moving down from the top as if it was scanning the object. She then keeps her deck in her pocket. With a flick
of an eye, she touches the ballerina, twists it clockwise and takes it out to reveal a false bottom. In it is a plastic card
which the Card Yielder is looking for, who turns into a smile and heaves a sigh of relief. She carefully takes it out from a
taped bottom and replaces the ballerina in place.
Suddenly the turn of the door knob can be heard, and Jouhou quickly places the box down. She swipes her deck
on the music box removing all traces of her existence and hides in a slot in between the desk and wardrobe. Yuusukes
mother opens the door slightly to see her son sleeping soundly in bed, smiles in relief and closes the door gently.

That was a relief.

Jouhou then moves out swiftly as soon as she hears another door closing, not forgetting to close the room door.
As she closes the door gently, she sees the innocent face of the boy as he turns over to face the wall in slumber.

51

Outside the house, the security guard is dozing off while a lamppost beside the gate starts flickering, and
continues to shine a moment later. He does not think this is weird, so he slaps his cheeks to keep himself awake. Jouhou
is seen walking past the gate with the newly acquired Card in her hand.
This would make a good addition to my collection.
She keeps the Card in her pocket and continues to walk home in the dark night.
The next morning, Myousuke looks at the sky in the classroom with a worried face. In comes Shinji as he pats in
his shoulder and waves as a greeting. He places his stuff and takes out his phone.
Hey I heard from Aunt that Yuusuke was crying all day and refused to go to school today. Do you think he is
really going to be alright?
Myousuke snaps out of his thought.
What?
Shinji points to his phone message that he is showing to his friend and Myousuke continues to look at the sky.
Well, Im sure this is going to be a good growing-up lesson for him
At Yuusukes home, he is seen sitting on his bed crying with the music box on his hands. Tears flow through his
big eyes and land on the wooden box, trickling into droplets
