THEE WORD FOR THE WEEK

Seeking Wisdom ~ James 1:5-8 June 17-21, 2013 Monday: Read James 1:5-8 When we are going though God ordained difficulties what should we pray about? James gives an answer for us that we should ask God for wisdom. Verses 1-4 paint a picture that the trials are going to come and now we understand that we should seek God for wisdom. Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. It is the right use of applying what we know or learn. We need wisdom so we will not waste the opportunities that God is giving us to mature. When you are going through a trial do you ask God for wisdom? If God is allowing us to go through trials so that we will learn and grow from them, how will wisdom play a role in you grasping or learning what God wants you to learn? Tuesday: Read James 1:5-8 Verse 5 spells out the truth that some people lack wisdom and need wisdom. What does verse 5 tell us we should do if we lack wisdom? According to verse 5 how does God give wisdom? What is a list of some things that you know you should ask God for, but fail to at times? Does verse 5 give and impression that God desires to supply you with wisdom? Wednesday: Read James 1:5-8 Verse 6 shows us an aspect of belief and doubt when it comes to asking God to give us wisdom during times of trial. If we must believe what does that mean? What are we not to doubt? How does verse 6 describe he who doubts? How do we make sure we are not blown and tossed by the wind? How does this have to do with making up your mind when there are two alternatives? Thursday: Read James 1:5-8 Verse 7 reveals a truth of the doubting person not receiving what could have received, but because of the doubt it is not received. How does doubt affect your life? When do you most struggle most with doubt? It is almost like God is saying how can I give you wisdom when you are not so much concerned with wisdom. Why may that be a big deal? Friday: Read James 1:5-8 Verse 8 goes on to talk about the one who doubts being double minded. This is not an aspect of duplicity, but that of facing two directions at once. How have you been like that recently? Why would that cause a person to be unstable? How can you choose to be stable in all that you do? How do you apply these things to your life right now?
