Guidelines for writing a paper critique

a) Describe the context of the paper: What is the sub-area on which it focuses? What are the questions it targets? Why should one care? What is the significance-of/motivation-for-asking these questions? b) Provide a brief description of the results, the way you view them. Rather than repeating the papers technical definitions, try to explain the basic notions and results semi-informally. c) Comment on how these results differ, expand or improve the state-of-the-art (based on the information provided by the paper, as well as the results of some basic research you carry out (using Google, CiteSeer etc.). d) What is the main technical or conceptual idea(s)? e) How well is the paper written? Is the paper sufficiently selfcontained? Does it deliver on the promises/statements it makes? Does it over-sell/under-sell itself? f) In what ways do you think the paper could be improved? g) What do you think are the follow-up questions to pursue?
