Cultural Origins/ Contributions

The Mayans developed the system in Central Mexico

around 2,000 B.C and AD 250. The number system was used in the forth century around 1,00o years ago. During this time in the United States nothing was going on. The historical significance is that without the Mayans, today we may be using base 20 or even just discovering numeral systems. Contributions that the Mayans made are that they showed us that we should use base 10 instead of base 20. The number system uses base 20.
