01/9/2011 - Question of the day Given that (3p,2q) is a solution of the simultaneous equations (y/2) (2/3)x 2 = 0 (3y/2x) + (4x/y)

y) 5 = 0 Find the values of p and q.

Hint: (3p,2q) is in the form of (x,y) so just substitute value in. No worry, this question does not has 2 answers for p and q each.

Solution for 01/9/2011 - Question of the day I will skip some steps, because its just about substituting values of x and y. On the first equation after you substitute x = 3p, y = 2q, you will get: q 2p 2 = 0 q = 2p + 2

Second equation, substitute again (q/p) + (6p/q) 5 = 0 q^2 + 6p^2 5pq = 0 ---- multiply the whole equation by pq Substitute q = 2p+2 (2p+2)^2 + 6p^2 5p(2p+2) = 0 4p^2 + 8p + 4 + 6p^2 10p^2 -10p = 0 -2p + 4 = 0 p=2

substitute p = 2 into first equation, q = 2p + 2 q = 2(2) + 2 q=6

hope this helps
