Ev-DO: The third generation mobile telephony in CDMA.

Being online and connect with the world is now more important than ever. In the recent years the wireless telephony has changed the way we connect to the world. It has provided the capability of mobility i.e. anywhere we go, we are always are always connected to our friends, family, office etc. Furthermore, as internet has grown so as technologies to connect it. One of the major breakthroughs in wireless technology is CDMA. CDMA is an abbreviation for Code Division Multiple Access system IS-95. CDMA was a less known technology in early 90s in many parts of the world such as Europe. As the technology advanced, a new initiative was taken by ITU (International Telecommunications Union) to standardise 3 Generation mobile/personal wireless communication system with high capacity and a high degree of inter-operability among the different network components. The standard was known as IMT-2000. To meet IMT-2000 requirements for a greaterthan 2-Mbit/s downlink for stationary communications, Qualcomm developed 1XEV-DO it was given the numerical designation as IS-856. Originally, 1xEV-DO stood for "1x Evolution-Data Only" (The title of the 1xEV-DO standard document is "cdma2000 High Rate Packet Data Air Interface Specification", as cdma2000 (lowercase) is another name for the 1x standard, numerically designated as IS-2000.) later 1xEV-DO stands for "1x Evolution-Data Optimized". Let us see, how this technology evolved and what is the magic behind such a successful revolution? What is CDMA? To understand EvDO technology first we need to understand the basics of CDMA technology.
