5 construction workers plunge 70 ft to their death in Rizal scaffolding collapse

Red Cross confirmed the fatal incident about 1 a.m. today. Killed in the accident were Eduardo Fidel, Gregorio Ricalde, Jeffrey Sinag, Antonio Manguerra, and Roberto Mesias -- all of East West Corp. As of posting time, only one of the five bodies has been recovered from the wreckage. Twelve individuals were also wounded in the incident, with two still recovering at the hospital. The workers were reportedly fixing the smokestack of SPC Malaya Power Corp.'s power plant when the scaffolding caved in. Investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the accident, but SPC Malaya contends that it complied with the necessary safety guidelines. The company assured the victims and their families that it will extend financial assistance for their hospital expens
