WEEK 6
HEART
Welcome to Week 6! We are moving on towards the end of the class, and I hope that you are finding it beneficial. Our key verse is surrounded by other verses. Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened. But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. Just before we are told to give reason for our hope, there is a quote from Isaiah 8. The quote is essential. The context for the verse in Isaiah is a story in which most people were fearful of advancing enemies. God instructed Isaiah to not fear what the people feared; he was to fear the Lord only. 1 John 4 assures us that this fear is not a cowering fear, so we tend to describe it as reverence. What is very plain is that the one who fears the Lord has no need to fear anyone else. The courage to relay the reason for our hope will always be found in reverencing the character of God. We need be overly concerned about our weakness. We fear only One, and since the blood of Christ makes peace with Him, we can walk forward in confidence.
