Pin loaded Lug Simulation

We have a problem that we want to simulate the pin loaded lug as shown in figure below. Width of plate w=50mm Thickness of plate t=5mm Radius of pin hole R=10mm Force P=1000N

Pin loaded lug is simulated using the following theory and FEA techniques. 1. By theory 2. By FEA techniques (a) Nodal loading using Cosine curve (b) Nodal loading using half and full loads (c) Pressure loading using surface effect elements

By Theory
According to the theory, the nominal stresses in the component are n =P/dt =1000/20*5 =10 MPa The stress concentration factor for this case is 2.7 Kt = Therefore the actual stresses would be a = Kt n =2.7*10 = 27 MPa

By FEA techniques
