DECADES A PART

For Kathryn

It’s 6:05 am, December 11, 2007

There is fresh dna on the bedsheets
I woke a half hour ago
a memory of us
drifted and dipped like a kite on waves of wind
A kite tethered to my loins
tugging me with the exuberance
of startled birds exploding from a berry bush

Remember this:
in Belleville, April 23, 1971, circa 4:30am
I woke beside you
turned
mounted
plunged in
to you
just like that
no preamble
no warning
no warming
no moisture
You were all silent
surprised
yielding
yes

I came in your embrace in 1971

I came in your memory in 2007

I lay in moist memory of you

warm dampmess comforting me
as soil slumbers seeds
Sleep fled like an illicit lover with darkness
and the morning sunrinse
mused this poem to inform you
how much I enjoyed you
disturbing my sleep
so many
decades
a part
