In amplitude modulated signals, apart from the amplitude, the frequency of carrier wave also varies according to the

input signal frequency as carrier signal. These difference frequencies are called the side bands. When the carrier signal is of higher frequency, the variation in the carrier frequency caused due to side bands is in very small proportion. In effect, it is possible to use high efficiency power amplifiers with tank circuits for transmission. If c1 is the carrier frequency and m is the modulating frequency, then the amplitude modulated signal will contain the frequency (c1m).
