Non-electrical conductors (except carbon)

Non-metals have dull surfaces, are poor electrical conductors (except graphite), are poor thermal conductors, are non-malleable, and are non-ductile

In cars, iron, copper and aluminium are used to make engine blocks. Metals are used because they are strong and can be shaped for use in engine parts.

Noble gases, such as Neon and Argon are used in light bulbs because they are highly unreactive. This prevents metal filaments from being oxidised, making the bulb last longer.
