In this unit, students used their writing to teach others about a non-fiction topic. Students practiced note taking skills while listening to non-fiction texts then wrote their own informational books to share what they had learned. We read about a wide variety of topics from bones to lightning. This book is about red eyed tree frogs. When this was written, the student could dictate multiple facts that were read from the text. His pictures matched his dictation. At this point in the year we knew from his writing that he had to work on using his knowledge of letter sounds and sight words in his writing.
