For example, every radio has a built-in equalizer where the sound curve from the deepest bass to the highest treble is set separately to suit each individual Volvo model. Dolby Surround Pro Logic*

Dolby Surround Pro Logic gives the driver and front seat passenger a uniquely detailed and three-dimensional sound profile. In order for everyone in the car to be able to enjoy the wide stereo sound pattern, there is a threechannel mode without the output from Dolby Surround Pro Logic*.

Dolby Surround Pro Logic* provides an audio experience that is particularly realistic. The loudspeakers are supplemented with a centre loudspeaker in the middle of the instrument panel. A sound processor divides the two stereo channels into a left-middle-right sound pattern to provide a more three-dimensional audio profile. What is more, there is a power channel that enhances the perception of space in the rear loudspeakers. The result is an open, clear and natural sound with a remarkable ability to generate a sense of immediate presence. It's an audio experience that is unique in the car world you'll experience the music as though you were in a concert hall. Available for the Volvo S80, S60, V70, Cross Country and C70.

N EW SOLUTION TO A CLASS IC P ROB LE M Reproducing natural sound in a car is a major challenge. With loudspeakers installed in the doors, for instance, not all the car's occupants will perceive the same sound in the same way. Dolby Surround Pro Logic* with its centre loudspeaker solves that problem by recreating the movement of sound as it is perceived at source. You will perceive the music equally clearly whether you are behind the wheel or in the passenger seat.

Several of the audio systems in the HU series can be controlled without taking your hand off the steering wheel. You can adjust volume, switch radio stations and change to the next or previous track on the CD without taking your hands off the wheel.

Volvos attention to safety naturally encompasses the audio system too. You should be able to change stations and adjust the sound quality without being distracted from the road. What is more, all the audio equipment is thoroughly crash-tested so we know that it conforms to Volvos stringent safety standards. The audio system in your Volvo does not only sound fantastic, it also gives you access to the latest traffic information so that you can avoid tailbacks and other obstacles. The RDS radio has features such as traffic information priority, programme type monitoring, autostore and much more. With RDS, you do not need to change frequency while you drive the radio automatically switches to the most powerful transmitter for the station you have selected. Large, easy to handle controls allow you to concentrate on your driving. What is more, several of our audio systems have controls in the steering wheel. Some of them even adjust volume automatically to suit your speed, and lower volume automatically when the car phone is in use. Volvos aerials are tailored to give the best reception in your Volvo. Some of the radios have a Diversity aerial that minimises interference in all reception conditions.

All the components in Volvos audio systems meet Volvos stringent safety requirements. They have been crash-tested in every Volvo model to ensure that they do not splinter or break away in a collision. One example of attention to safety is that the CD tray automatically retracts if you do not remove the disc from the CD player within 12 seconds after the Eject button is pressed.
Anti-theft protection

The anti-theft protection with which our audio systems are fitted is designed to make life so difficult for the would-be thief that he would rather give your car and audio equipment a wide berth. That is why the radios in the HU series, for instance, only function in the Volvo car in which they were originally installed. What is more, they are fully integrated into the instrument panel, so they are very difficult indeed to steal. Volvos other radio units feature an anti-theft code or a removable keypad or both.

Available in two versions: one which is installed in the luggage compartment and one which is placed in the glove compartment within convenient reach of the front seat occupants. SMALL-FRONT RADIOS:

A separate amplifier with a powerful output allows you to enjoy even better sound quality, since you can turn up the volume and listen to music with a wide dynamic range (in other words, music with a wide difference between the loud and quiet passages) and still have very little distortion. A separate CD changer allows you to switch between several discs. Volvos CD changers are easy to operate from the radios control panel just touch a button to change discs. You can play the discs in sequence, you can select the disc and track of your choice or let the system choose a track at random. In order to be able to use a separate amplifier or CD changer, the radio must be equipped with special outputs.

AUDIO KEY
ASC (Active Sound Control) Automatically adjusts the volume to the speed of the car (in certain models) to compensate for the higher background noise at higher speeds. AUTO LOUDNESS When you turn down the volume, the bass and treble registers are automatically reinforced so that speech and music sound better. AUTO REVERSE When one side of the tape has finished playing, the second side plays automatically. NEXT (NXT) This is used to skip a track. Simply touch the button and the player will move on to the next track on tape or CD. PINCH-OFF To prevent tangling, the tape is released from the drive mechanism and pressure roller when the cassette player is switched off. PRE-SELECT The pre-select buttons enable you to choose between pre-set stations. They are also used to select the CDs in the CD changer. PTY (Programme Type) Specify the type of programme you wish to listen to and the radio automatically selects this type, without your needing to choose a channel. On most Volvo systems, this information can be programmed and stored. The radio then searches for the desired programme type, no matter whether you are listening to the radio, a tape or a CD, provided that it is being broadcast on the nationwide network or a local channel linked to the network. RANDOM (RND) Press the button and the tracks will be played in random order from one or more CD discs. REPEAT Repeats the latest track played on CD or tape. RDS (Radio Data System) The radio automatically finds the most powerful transmitter for the programme you have selected, so you never need to retune during a long journey. SEEK The radio automatically scans the frequency band until it finds the next station and then stays there until you press the seek button again. TELEPHONE MUTING The audio volume is automatically turned down when you use your car telephone. 3-CH (Three-channel) The stereo sound at the front is enhanced with the output from the centre loudspeaker, which provides a wider stereo pattern for everyone in the car. TP (Traffic Information Priority) If you press the TP button, you will receive all traffic information that is broadcast on local channels or nationwide networks with EON. Any bulletins automatically break in, no matter whether you are listening to the radio, a tape or a CD.

AUTO (Auto store) The most powerful stations in the area are programmed automatically in rising order of frequency. Each time you press the button, the radio switches to the next station, eliminating the need to tune each station yourself. CD CONTROL You can control the built-in CD player/CD changer or a separate CD changer from the front panel of the radio. The separate CD changer can be loaded with six or ten discs which can be selected using the pre-select buttons on the radio. CENTRE AND REAR EFFECT The possibility of adjusting the sound pattern and dynamics via the centre loudspeaker in the Dolby Surround Pro Logic System* or threechannel mode. DIVERSITY AERIAL SYSTEM For the best possible reception in difficult conditions, two aerials are used the radio automatically selects the strongest signal on the FM band. DOLBY B A system for reducing noise from cassette tapes recorded using the Dolby system. DOLBY PL (Dolby Surround Pro Logic*) The audio unit is fitted with a sound processor and centre loudspeaker which give a very realistic three-dimensional sound. EON (Enhanced Other Network) Local traffic information on another channel on the national network is automatically received (if the TP function is on), no matter whether you are listening to the radio, a tape or a CD. The system automatically returns to the original channel when the information ends (see PTY). FADER Balances the sound between the front and rear loudspeakers. NEWS If the news button is pressed, you do not need to worry about missing the news when you are listening to a different channel on a national network. News programmes automatically break in.
