The Cute, the Ugly, and the Chimp By S. K. Russell [1]The behavior of chimpazees can be cute or ugly in a flash.

[2]Within their families chimps are affectionate, will chuckle, and will even smile. [3]Happily they will give hugs, shake hands, and kiss. [5]While holding babies, chimps will groom them, hush them, and play with them. [6]They will also be mean. [4]Fighting younger and weaker chimps, older experiernced chimps will aggressively vent their rage. In this way a chimp can establish themselves in the social hierarchy which is something every chimp wants. To strut their stuff chimps will woop, yell, drum their chests, stomp, and hurl sod. But in chimp families their behavior can still be cute because any aggression is just a threat not like the uglyness that is the chimp hierarchy.
