JAMAICA

Population: Jamaica's population is primarily of African or mixed (with Europeans), a descendant of slaves brought to the island between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Among stable minority citizens are Southeast Asian, European and Chinese. About 45% of the population lives in rural areas. The capital:
Kingston is the capital of Jamaica. It is located in the southeast of the island and has a population of approximately 577,774 inhabitants (2010) .1 It is located within the parish of Kingston, Surrey County. It has a natural harbor protected by the Palisadoes, a long name for sandbar between Port Royal and the Norman Manley International Airport to the rest of the island. The city was founded by the British in 1693 after an earthquake destroyed most of the ancient capital, Port Royal. The city became the seat of the government of Jamaica in1872.
