En cualquier ciudad, en cualquier pas, hay una institucin mental o un centro de reinsercin social donde puedes intentar ir por un Objeto. Haba 2538 de esos Objetos, pero 2000 se perdieron. Estas historias han sido recogidas de varias fuentes, muchas de las cuales son ms bien cuestionables, pero todas tienen una trama similar; ellas cuentan la historia de un nmero de Objetos, los cuales, al momento de reunirse, traern horribles consecuencias, detalles de como la gente se vuelve loca. La especulacin corre desenfrenada; parte de lo que hace a las historias de The Holders tan incitante es la posibilidad de cualquier persona de ir a una institucin mental, preguntar por visitar a un Holder, y estar forzado a someterse a una prueba de fuerza para conseguir un Objeto. Algunos de los Holders han publicado sus propias historias, aadindole misterio a una asustadiza y enerveradora serie.
