Father's Day

"Mrs. Joan B. Dodd, of Washington, was the one who proposed the idea of" Father's Day "in 1909. Mrs. Dodd wanted a special day there to honor her father William Dodd. Willian Dodd, Civil War veteran , became a widower when his wife (Mrs. Dodd's mother) died in childbirth with their sixth child. It was on a rural farm in Washington state that Mr. Dodd took six children to educate. It was then that Mrs. Dodd realized that his father had been a true example to raise all their children with real education and values. The first Father's Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910 in Spokane Washington. At the same time in various cities across the United States, people started to celebrate "Father's Day". In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge made Father's Day as a national celebration. Finally in 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day.
