Phil. 4.6, 7; 1 Pet. 5.6, 7 Cast Anxieties on God

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil. 4.6, 7, ESV (63)

Many trials, troubles, and tribulations come our way every daybills, debt, kids, parents, in-laws, co-workers, getting laid off, the economy, temptations, failures, people who let us down, and on and on the list could go. How should we handle such discouragements? For those who are faithful Christians, Paul said we should not fret about them. Rather, we should petition God in prayer to provide for all that we need. In these prayers we also need to thank God for his provisions and for answered prayers. When we are willing to petition God with all of our problems, and we are willing to let him take care of them, there is a peace that is indescribable that will guard us against discouragement and despair.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1 Pet. 5.6, 7, ESV (64)

In this passage Peter emphasizes a similar thought by saying we should give all of our anxieties to God because he cares for us. However, that means we must not depend on ourselves. That is, we should not think we can handle everything all by ourselves We must be willing to swallow our pride, humble ourselves before God, take the burden of anxiety from our shoulders, and put it on Gods shoulders. He can handle whatever comes our way. What a wonderful blessing! As mentioned, however, this blessing is only available to those who have surrendered and submitted themselves to God by becoming a child of his (Prov. 15.29; 1 Pet. 3.12). Have you obeyed the gospel? If not, why not obey the gospel today so that you too can cast all your anxieties on God? JRG Service Times: Sun. @ 9.00am & 6.00pm | Wed. @ 7.30pm
