Week in, week out

Pitching themselves as a British rock band with an American jam band-style approach to making music and citing their influences as just about every genre of music you can think of, Egokiller take a pretty radical approach to creating music. We write and record everything in one take and live, often without meeting or hearing the drummers first doing everything wrong from a traditional recording approach, says G-Reg, who along with Diggy and Motet make up the band. Its an approach that has yielded a prolific output of music, so far resulting in nearly 270 songs and counting in at 37 three-hour sessions. The idea for their current project, to release a track a week, came to them while searching for a new drummer. We discovered the joys of improvising hooks and arrangements whilst searching for a new drummer. Auditions were off the cuff and limited by time and money so we decided to just record everything we did, as wed always promised ourselves one day we would explore more improvisation anyway. Pretty soon we realised finding the perfect drummer to do the range of vibes we wanted to explore was going to be difficult, but in the process of finding that out, new interesting musical ideas were happening more and more. The band have often supported charities with their music and this time they decided to support homeless charities by ensuring

that all the profits from their latest venture are split between The Big Issue in the North Trust, Crisis and Shelter. It was obvious with all the currentausterity and our own close scrapes with almost being in a homeless situation, fundraising was needed more than ever for a situation that was obviously only going to get worse in coming months and years, says G-Reg. Weve been lucky that others share the same view and have offered to help us with everything from videos to free mastering of the singles. Weve had support from various professionals and studios such as Re:sound UK, Touchwood, Beat Street Studios, Sandinista Leeds and Sine FM along with all the musicians and drummers taking part. We have a few special guests joining us on tracks. Weve been lucky enough to play and collaborate with people who have previously worked with everyone from Groove Armada to the Pogues Shane McGowan, as well as up and coming bands like Alaska. Its not just drummers, its DJs, sax players, violinists and guest singers.
