Materials and care
Down and Feathers
Down is the soft inner feather closest to the bird which keeps it warm. Down
has a shorter, softer quill than a feather and is extremely effective at trapping
air, making it an excellent insulator. Down also breathes, allowing moisture
from your body to pass through the quilt.
Feathers provide resilience, but do not have the same insulating properties.
Down and feathers used in IKEA pillows and quilts are never taken from living
birds.
Care tip: Air and shake out your quilts and pillows regularly to help them
stay fresh. They can be machine washed at 60C and tumble dried once or
twice a year. A couple of tennis balls in the tumble drier will help keep the

to lie in a mattress. He has one job in life, and thats to test our
mattresses. And he does it well.
His tests show that the springs really last, which is why we give
our mattresses a 25-year guarantee without as much as a second
thought.
Theres a lot of talk about natural materials in mattress
advertisements these days and at IKEA stores you can choose from
mattresses filled with horsehair, camel hair, silk or wool. But there
are also times when other materials are more suitable such as
polyester, which is twice as strong as cotton.
Buying a mattress is very much an individual choice its the most
personal item of furniture in your home.
So choose carefully you might need one type of mattress, and
your bed partner another. And of course theres nothing to say that
you should have a mattress for $5,000. You might want five for the
same price.
