Electrical Engineering Exam Paper Specialization: Control Systems Maximum Marks: 50 Answer all questions Question-1: (a) Consider

the series RLC circuit shown in the figure below. Choose a suitable set of state variables and obtain the state variable model of the circuit in matrix form. The input is the voltage vs . 5X10 = 50Marks

(b) Determine the transfer function

Vo ( s ) of the circuit shown in the figure below. Vs ( s )

Question-2: Find the range of gain for stability and instability, and the gain for marginal stability, for K the unity feedback system shown in below figure, where G ( s ) = 2 ( s + 2s + 2 ) ( s + 2 ) . For marginal stability find the radian frequency of oscillation. Use the Nyquist criterion and the mapping of only the positive imaginary axis

Question-3: Sketch the root locus for the system shown in below figure and find the following (a) The exact point and gain where the locus crosses the j -axis (b) The breakaway point on the real axis (c) The range of K within which the system is stable.

Question-4: The system shown in the below figure has an acceptable steady-state error of 0.01 for a unit-ramp command if the gain is set to K p = 500 and Gc ( s ) = 1 . If this is done, however, the transient performance is lightly damped and thus unsatisfactory. Design a compensator to give a gain margin of at least 8 dB and a phase margin of at least 30 .

Question-5: Proportional-Derivative (PD) control of a neutrally stable second-order plant is shown in the figure below. Investigate its performance for step and ramp inputs for c 0 .
