Strange Weather By Sophie A : Have you seen pink snow? B : No, is that possible? A : Yes, snow is made in clouds.

Sometimes strong winds pick up tiny bits of red soil and dust. These bits of soil are blown up into snow clouds. Snow forms around red soil. And then the snow looks dark pink! B : Oh, You know really well. You must have seen it. A : No, I havent. B : Then you must have seen fishes falling from the sky, havent you? A : No, I havent. But I do know how it happens. Sometimes a special kind of storm forms over an ocean or a lake. It is called a waterspout. The strong winds of a waterspout whirl around and around. A waterspout can suck up water. It can suck up fishes, too. Sometimes the waterspout will move over dry land. When it starts to die out, the fishes will fall to the ground. B : In 1894, it rained jellyfish in England. Right? A : Yes, you are right. In other places they had snails, worms, or even snakes fall from the sky. And like a waterspout, a tornado is a storm with fierce winds that whirl around. Tornadoes move in crazy paths. A tornado can crush one house and leave the next one alone. And in 1974, a tornado in Ohio knocked down a farmhouse. Everything was broken. But three things was not broken. Do you know what the three things are? B : Yes. A mirror, a case of eggs, and a box of Christmas ornaments! A : And do you know that a tornado hit Codell in 1916? B : Yes, and so? A : A tornado hit Codell in 1917 and 1918, too. And do you know what the funniest thing is? The tornado hit Codell struck each year on May 20! The exact same day!

B : Wow, interesting. Do you know a man who was stuck by lightning seven times? A : Of course I know. His name was Roy Sullivan and he was a park ranger. B : Thats nothing. In Hawaii, theres a mountain which rained for 350 days in a year. A : Who will believe that? I hope someone will believe this one. Parts of New England got six inches of snow in June. B : What a silly story. Now I will tell you that C : And will you be quiet in a library? B : Were we in a library? C : Yes. A : Sorry. B, lets go outside. B : Good idea.
