The provisions for anchor bolts were developed in consideration of the possible consequences of failure. Requiring all forces to be transferred to the reinforcing steel ensures connection ductility and minimizes the effect of concrete cracking. The additional provisions for coatings and corrosion allowances reflect the corrosive nature of the plant environments. Careful attention should be made to acceptable coatings of bolts. Certain materials (A194, A354) are not approved for hot-dipped galvanizing by ASTM and may be susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement.
