Peer Educators Leadership Course 2013

Date: 18th July 2013 Venue: National Science Centre Organized by: Expressions India Resource Persons: Dr. Jitendra Nagpal (Director, Expressions India), Dr. Sadhna Parashar (CBSE) Participants: Akash Shukla, Sugandha Yadav, Yamini Beri, Harsh Verma, Mayookh Yadav Teacher Escort: Dr. Dipti Yadav (Counselor) Expressions India is a renowned organization, committed towards enhancing quality & excellence in education and implementing The National Life Skills, Values Education & School Wellness Program across the country through the Peer Educators Methodology. Expressions India organised XII Peer Educators Leadership Course with an objective of developing psychological competencies and interpersonal skills in students. This program is enriched by CBSE guidelines of Health Promoting School, Values & Life Skills Education and the NCF (NCERT) 2005 recommendation on Health and Physical Education. Five students who are selected to be the Peer educators from classes IX and X participated in the Inauguration and Introductory Session on Common Adolescent Issues and Concerns with special focus on Gender Sensitization: Peer Educators Perspective. The students shared their learning outcomes and experiences after the session: I got to know new things in an interactive way. I learnt about various adolescent issues through this session. Mayookh Yadav IX A I learnt about the behavioural issues and difficulties faced by adolescents during their growing up period. We discussed issues like gender biases, substance abuse, stereotypical behaviours and coping with changes during adolescence. Sugandha Yadav X D The first session in the process of becoming a peer educator was an awesome experience. Being one of more than 300 students from schools across Delhi was a wonderful feeling. I am looking forward to having such sessions with my peers in school. Harsh Verma IX D It was a new experience. It is a challenging task to understand the important issues of our lives and to play the role of Peer Educators for our juniors to make them empowered individuals. Akash Shukla X C Attending the Peer Educator workshop was a wonderful experience. Sitting amongst more than 300 students and presenting our views on issues like gender stereotype and female foeticide etc was an enriching experience and made us feel more aware and responsible.
