Lesson 1 and 2
1.12C, 1.56C, 1.78A Our Environment IWB Slides H 3.5

Aims: Objectives:

Guide students to identify types of feeding relationships. By the end of the lesson the students will be able to: Recognise that animals eat different things and some animals are carnivores and herbivores. (level 5) Identify animals which are carnivores and herbivores. (Level 6) Describe the terms producers, consumers, herbivores, carnivores and omnivores and construct a food chain. (Level 7) Link different food chains in a food web and describe the effect of environmental changes on the food chain. (Level 8)

Plan:

Our Environment Show clip of animals feeding (1st slide) Ask students to give examples of animals and their food Explain carnivores, herbivores and omnivores (2nd slide) Show some animals on the IWB, and ask students to sort them into carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores (3rd slide) Ask students to explain how the plant makes food photosynthesis Explain that plants are producers (4th slide) Explain why animals are called consumers Primary (5th slide) Secondary (6th slide) Tertiary (7th slide) Food chain levels (8th slide) Activity: Students are given animals and plants of several habitats in order to make a food chain, and relate it with habitat (9th slide) Explain the effect of environmental changes (10th slide)
