Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact Rationale/Reflection InTASC Standard: Standard #8: Instructional Strategies The teacher understands and

uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.

Brief Description of Evidence: I created a 3rd integrated art and science lesson plan, where the students were given a variety of instructional strategies to create a crayon rock cycle. This lesson plan will have students develop an even deeper understanding of the science content area of sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks. The students will participate in the lesson plan and use their connections and apply their knowledge by creating the different rocks and being able to identify them. Analysis of What I Learned: Overall, I have learned that every student applies knowledge and understands material differently. Providing students with different instructional strategies is significant, because it identifies the type of learner they are. I have learned that integrating another subject into a lesson plan usually results in a better outcome.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the InTASC Standard: The artifact demonstrates my competence on the INTASC Standard #8 because during every transition of the lesson plan I provide a different method of instructional strategies. This is so every student in the classroom understands the content areas and their connections. Reviewing the new vocabulary terms with the students by calling on volunteers who would like to write them on the board is a strategy that helps students feel comfortable encourages them to share their knowledge with their classmates. I instruct students to get into groups to share their ideas about the characteristics each rock has, students can help each other understand the content and build connections with each others understandings.
