Overuse of defense mechanisms: (Regression/ Denial) Subsequent loss of brain tissue and CSF

Diminished glucose metabolism and oxygen in the frontal cortical structures of the brain Decrease brain volume and abnormal brain function in the frontal and temporal lobe Malfunctioning of electrical impulses from a nerve cell through its axon and across synapses and postsynaptic receptors

Increased density of D2 receptor site, particularly in the basal ganglia

Increase in serotonin production to help control excess dopamine

Decrease activity of glutamate through dysfunction of its N-acetylaspertate receptor

Diminished neuronal content in both the thalamus and hippocampus

Positive symptoms: * Talks irrelevantly (Associative looseness) *Unable to sleep (Hallucinations) *Utters bad words (Perseveration)

Negative symptoms: * Irritable (Apathy)
