VOCABULARY: RELATIONSHIPS

DEFINITION: Soap opera is a series of television or radio programmes about the lives and problems of a particular group of characters. The series continues over a long period and is broadcast (several times) every week.

Aim: Building conversational and team or pair working skills in English to practice reported speech Activity: Create, write out the script and act out a scene from your soap opera. Class 1 1- Learn relationship verbs 2- Brainstorm an outline for a typical scene in a soap opera, some examples are given: a) At the same time Fiona and Chris plan to get married after finishing school. Alice, who loves Chris, cant stand seeing them so happy so she manages to split them up. b) Harold manages to become a famous football player. Alice denied having had a relationship with Ricky, when Mark asked. Samantha avoids telling Harold about Ricky and Alices relationship. Mark cant stand seeing Iker and Alice, but he loves being with Laura.

Class 2 Pair-work/team work activity: Once you have the ideas, you start writing the script of your soap opera using the relationship vocabulary previously learnt. Class 3 1) Once written and checked, report your script to your classmates either act out or record the soap opera. Reported speech must be used.
