Welcome to the K (Krause) G (Gartman)M Green Team!

(Morgan)

This year we are committed to not only giving your child the best possible education in the basics: Reading, Writing, and Math, but we want to educate our students in the importance and value of environmental awareness. It is our plan that our students will become engaged in ways to make our world a better place. In addition to recycling cans, cell phones, maintaining the Habitat, and gardening, students will be brainstorming and implementing more ways we can go green. We would greatly appreciate parental involvement! Please stay updated with our KGM Green Team through our website at TheKGMGreenteam.weeby.com . Even though students are in three separate classes, we are in reality, one cohesive group. Together we will be voting on currency (student created) designs for our economy program, green slogans, classroom constitution, and any other matter pertinent to all classes. We will celebrate classroom parties such as holidays or end of year celebrations together. The only celebration we will keep separate is the birthdays. It could get expensive bringing treats for 75 + kids! Whatever classroom your child is in during the afternoon would be the classroom that gets to celebrate the birthday with the treat. Students will attend Mrs. Gartmans class for Social Studies, Science, and Writing. Mrs. Krauses class for Math, and Mrs. Morgans for Reading and Spelling. Our curriculum will be designed so that all of the subjects will be integrated throughout all of our classrooms. Our first period will begin at 8:15 and end at 10:00. This will allow an extra 15 minutes for each homeroom to take attendance, listen to announcements, and pass out papers. Our next session will begin at 10:05. Students will go to lunch at 10:55. They will go to the playground at 11:25 and play until 11:45. They will then return to the same room they were in prior to lunch. This session also allows for an extra 15 minutes for story time and relaxation. The 2nd session is over at 12:40. The third session is from 12:45-2:15. Specials will be from 2:15-3:00. Specials are 3 days of P.E., one day with Mr. Bowling in Music, and one day of Art with Mrs. Haynes. We will have students write in their agendas on the first day of school when their specials are. All students will receive an agenda. The agendas serve as an excellent form of communication between the home and the school. Monday through Thursday students will be writing down their daily homework assignments . Please sign it each night after your child has fulfilled the homework requirements . The agenda must return to school on the following day. All 3rd grade classrooms will be actively involved in a year-long study of economics in which they maintain a class bank and store to help learn economic principles in a real-world setting. Not only will this help us facilitate classroom management as students earn credits and debits (incentives!) but the classroom economy is a fun way for students to act as both consumers and economists in a real world setting. We will be purchasing items through the Oriental Catalog, so monetary donations or purchasable store items would be fantastic! We would also love any donation of slightly used toys or games your child no longer wants. In other words, when in doubt, dont throw it out!

We know it is going to be a pleasurable experience; teaching, learning, and growing with your child! We are here to serve you and your child.
