Timeslot(2G) Vs Channel Element(3G/UMTS)

2G Capacity -Timeslot
In 2G system, capacity of Sector is calculated by number of available TCH timeslots. Below is typical configuration of sector having four TRXs.

3G Capacity- Channel Element

In 3G system, capacity of Sector is calculated by number of available CE (Channel Element) and Power. If the user is near to BS he will use less power and will use 1 CE and if far the 2 CEs. Utilization of CE is different for different Traffic Classes.

Note: 1. The reason for UL Credit Consumption = 2* UL CE Consumption for the same data rate and services is that 1.5 CEs is consumed by UL PS 32kbps but only the INTEGAR value can be supported in RESOURCE STATUS INDICATION over Iub. So in Implementation(Based on vendor), UL Credit is provided through multiplying UL CE by 2. 2. For example in a standard low capacity license of DL48/UL48, these are Ces, so the corresponding Credits is DL48/UL96. 3. The amount of credits consumed by the E-DPCCH equals one. 4. Certain credits are reserved for HSDPA RAB.
