I suppose the time will come[1] Aid it in the coming[2] When the Bird will crowd the Tree[3] And the Bee be booming.[4] I suppose the time will come[5] Hinder it a little[6] When the Corn in Silk will dress[7] And in Chintz the Apple[8] I believe the Day will be[9] When the Jay will giggle[10] At his new white House the Earth[11] That, too, halt a little [12]

Emily is perhaps writing this poem in February. She would like to 'aid' the coming of spring, but 'hinder a little' the coming of autumn with its corn crops and apples and 'halt a little' the return of winter, when the Jay will be reduced to laughter at the sight of the snow-covered earth.
