The female Suffrage Nineteenth Century New Job opportunities emerged for women as teachers, shop workers, clerks

and secretaries en offices. Only a few lucky ones had the possibility of study in a university and become doctors. Then between 1839 and 1889 a series of laws gave married women greater legal rights. However, they couldnt vote in general elections. While all this was taking place in the world of women, the number of men who voted had increased en this century. All these great discussion about female suffrage is not a men vs. women thing, is bigger than that, because it caused a revolution. In favor of female suffrage Parliaments decisions affect both (men and women) so women should be able to vote too. Single women and widows who bear the same responsabilities as men do. Women pay taxes as men. Woman has shown that theyre able and can be trusted with a vote. Since women were specialized in the education and care of the house, they could make great contributions in the laws affecting these areas. Against female suffrage Men and women have different interests and responsabilities. Women are home-makers and men are the ones that take the difficult decisions. Women are not rational, theyre emotional and not worth to be trusted. Women are pure and should be protected from the grubby world of politics. They will neglect their family duties if we let them vote. Give a vote to a woman will be the same as giving a gun to a man. Women do not fight in a war for their country, so, why should they vote?
