Challenges involved in the scientific study of human behaviour.

3. The conscious nature of what is being studied. Because human beings are conscious, we have a personal perspective on what goes on around us. So in addition to the external circumstances that influence our behaviour, there are our individual circumstances which are also brought to bear on events. Therefore some behavioural scientists focus on the personal perspectives of individuals rather than on the measurement of objective behaviour. This comes under the umbrella of qualitative research, and will be discussed in topic 1b.
