Write up on Workshop for Technical Officers and Draughtsmen of Provincial Irrigation Department, Eastern Province, Batticaloa

The above workshop was conducted at Lourenco de Almeida Social and Cultural Centre, Batticaloa on 1st and 2nd October -2012. The purpose of the workshop is to improve and update the Technical knowledge of Technical Officers and Draughtsmen working in the Department. As all resource persons were very experienced and eminent persons in their fields, all engineers working in this Department also wished to participate to update their knowledge. The programee was started with the welcome speech of Eng.S.Thilagarajah, the Provincial Director of Irrigation, Mr.A.H.M .Ansar, Secretary to the Ministry of Road Development, Irrigation.EP, at his opening address requested all participations to gain the knowledge from the experience of these very eminent and experienced resource persons. 01. Eng.K.Thurairajaretnam, former Addl. Secretary to the Ministry of Irrigation, Colombo took lectures on the following topics. a) Earth compaction in engineering practices. b) Professional approaches and practices in civil engineering works. c) Economical analysis of an Irrigation Project. As Eng.K.Thurairajaretnam is having a very long experience in his Engineering career at the Irrigation Department from 1963, nearly fifty years, he imparted his knowledge and wisdom very much and all the participants were able to get and update their knowledge, specially engineers who are going to sit for their professional review exam could have received more useful knowledge from his lectures. 02. Eng.S.Mohanarajah, Regional Director of Irrigation, Batticaloa took lectures on the following topics. a) Operation and maintenance of Irrigation Schemes. b) Rate analysis. Eng.S.Mohanarajah has been serving at the Irrigation Department from 1983, his experiences and present practices in the central Irrigation Department were imparted when he delivered his lectures. Technical Officers were very keen and got explanation on the subject of operation and maintenance of Irrigation Scheme likewise Draughtsmen also got clear explanations on Rate analysis.

03.Mr.V.Kanagasingam, Senior Lecturer of the Eastern University, Vantharomoolai took a workshop on the subject of work while you work. As he has more than seventeen years service in teaching at the University in his career and experiences in the post like. Head of Department of Management and Dean of Faculty of Commerce and Management, he conducted a different type of workshop. All participants participated very eagerly and at the end they were motivated to work in their working places more efficiently and effectively.
