Advanced Visual Arts FALL Semester Outline

Week 1-2: Introductions, Reviewing the Elements & Principles of Design. Week 3-4: Art Research Projects & Presentations (Impressionism, Surrealism, Cubism, Pop Art). Week 5: Go over artwork presentation & critique procedure. Do drawing exercises. Week 6-7: Draw a portrait of a USA teacher using the technique and style of one of the art movements you learned about. Week 8: Review basics of color theory and do painting exercises . Week 9: Paint a landscape or still life using the technique and style of one of the art movements you learned about. Week 10-11: Create a 3D design/ sculpture using the technique and style of one of the art movements you learned about. Week 12: FIELD TRIP to Art Museum & Thanksgiving Break Week 13-14: View Embrace the Shake TED Talk and begin the Embrace your Limitations project (possible class mural project) ~Winter Vacation~ Week 15-16: Complete Final Project & Final Art Exhibition Week 17-18: Write Artist Statement & Review for Final Exam
