. Students are to listen to the song and fill in the blanks with the words that they hear in the song. Go over the song with the students, and call students attention to the verb forms, asking them what they notice about the verb endings: 1. Do the verbs take the normal verb endings, or is there something different? 2. Why might the verb endings be different? 3. What do you think the verbs mean? 2. Introduction to formal commands and guided practice a. Use Wiley PowerPoint presentation to explain how formal commands are formed. b. Using slide 14, have the students practice forming formal commands by guiding them through the conjugation steps. Write each command form on the board so that they can see the command form and say the correct form of the command. c. Have the students turn to activity 9-4 in the textbook, play the audio recordings, and allow the students to decide if the command is in the usted or the ustedes form. Replay the audio as needed to assist students. d. Have the students turn to activity 9-7 in the textbook, read the instructions to the students, and explain to them that they are to look at the list of commands given and decide which commands a doctor or a parent would say. 3. Simn Dice a. Have the students stand up next to their desks, and tell them that they are going to play Simn Dice. Call out various commands and have the students perform the command, but only if Simon says! Each student that incorrectly performs an action must sit down. 4. Group collaborative activity a. Have the students count off up to 5. b. Instruct all of the 1 students to move into a group, all of the 2 students to move into a group, etc. c. Show each group their respective PowerPoint scenario. Each group should try to create as many commands as possible that are appropriate to their situation.
