JUMMP Confirmation Policy

(St. Joseph University, St. Margaret Mary, St. Patrick) The Sacrament of Confirmation will be offered every two years. Candidates need to be High School Sophomores, Juniors or Seniors to be eligible to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. Candidates must attend JUMMP Religious Education classes; if a candidate misses more than two classes a year, he/she must do additional work to make up for the missed lessons. Candidates must also attend the Confirmation preparation meetings (with their sponsors attending when required). Being actively involved in service is a requirement for Confirmation. Emphasis is placed on candidates developing an attitude of service. Candidates must participate in the service opportunities provided throughout the Confirmation program and complete a total of 15 hours of service before the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation. Each candidate must choose a sponsor and a recognized saints name (either their own first or middle name, or an additional name). Candidates are encouraged to choose their Baptismal Godparent as their Confirmation sponsor. Parents may not be their childs sponsor. The sponsor must be an active and Confirmed Catholic. We ask that candidates attend one retreat before celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation during the year they celebrate confirmation. There will be a specific retreat designed for confirmation that is included in the cost of registration. If that retreat cannot be attended, you must attend another retreat during the year at the candidates own cost. Parents and sponsors are encouraged to be actively involved in the preparation for Confirmation with the candidates. The parish community is encouraged to prayerfully support candidates during the time of preparation. Candidates are expected to participate in weekend Liturgy on a regular basis.
