Matthew Shaffer

Matthew Shaffer is currently the editor-in-chief for Centel Media. Through his responsibilities as an editor, Shaffer is tasked with editing all content that comes to Centel Media via the writing staff, while maintaining an image that properly represents the high standard that Centel Media always strives to achieve. Shaffer aims to further Centel Media's goals to provide excellent customer service and inform all potential and returning customers about the many services offered by Centel Media. His goal is to add a unique and professional viewpoint to the Centel Media team.

Education:
Shaffer studied at the University of Illinois at Chicago, taking part in many different activities around campus. He volunteered for the InTouch Crisis Hotline, helping callers with depression, suicidal thoughts or other mental illnesses get through crisis situations so they could cope and recover. His experience at the Hotline established his desire to connect with others. Shaffer was also involved in research, assisting and leading sessions for a cognition lab. Upon graduation, Shaffer received a bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences, majoring in Psychology and minoring in English. He was inducted as a member of the honorary society of Psi Chi and awarded Magna Cum Laude for his 3.8 GPA.

Experience:
Shaffer has experience in customer service, having worked at the UIC Pavilion during his stay at the university. During his time post-graduation, Shaffer volunteered at the Turning Pointe Autism Foundation helping with affairs in fundraising, reception and newsletter editing and creation. For the past 5 years, Shaffer has written around 30 fiction short stories and novellas, ranging in many different genres. His experience in writing has influenced his work outside of fiction, helping bridge his skill onto other formats, including blogging, articles and social media.

My Contribution to the Centel Media Community:


As a member of the Centel Media team, Shaffer contributes to the Centel Media blog and edits all major documents. He is responsible for managing staff writers and editing their work, including press releases, website content and blogs. He further offers skills in investigative reporting, and with his grammar and editing skills, he brings a lot to the journalistic side of Centel Media. Shaffer continues to intern for Centel Media today, pursuing more experience and ways to contribute.
