thermal state limitations are formed by rotor during starting (if NPS condition is excluded) and stator in running

FrdricUnfollow Follow Frdric Frdric Alliet Hi Satish, To my understanding it means that rotors reach their thermal limit during start up and stators during continuous full load operation. Hope this helps. Regards. 1 month ago Unlike Like

FrdricUnfollow Follow Frdric Frdric Alliet Rotor's currents during start up are really huge (they depend on the slip). Normal operation currents in the rotor are quite small as slip is almost zero during normal operation. All together, compared to normal operation, the rotor's start up currents are much much much bigger that the stator's. Motors are designed for rated situation and for (only barely) allowing start up which is a temporary situation. That is also the reason why number of starts (per hour) is limited while normal operation is not. Another thing is a matter of thermal time constant (directly linked to kg) rotors are lighter than stators so starting time (with high currents) is long enough to heat up the rotor while the stator is still cool. Hope this answer your question. Regards. 1 month ago Unlike Like
