It all starts conceptually in Adobe Illustrator. A mockup is created to visualize placement of parts, and labeling. Even all the components were drawn in illustrator, to assist in planning

Continuing in Illustrator where I carefully measure and figure out where all the switches & part holes need to be. I print out the template on sticker paper, and attach it to the new blank enclosure

View of bottom holes to be drilled. Careful consideration is taken for internal parts, battery compartment, and screw posts

Then I take it to the drillpress and drill away. When I first started two years ago, my first enclosures were drilled with a Makita hand drill, and I found our quickly that a drillpress was necessary

Closeup view of holes. Titanium tipped drillbits help keep the holes clean and precise

Bottom holes are also drilled, notice the four holes on the left which will eventually become the beta/gamma window for the LND712 tube

I use a small hacksaw for the LCD window. I cut it roughly inside the lines and clean it up later with a file

Small rectangular holes for slide switches are filed to shape with a square file

Bevels are added to the switch screw and LED holes, with this tool.

After all the filing is done, the label is removed, final filing takes place using the parts to make sure they all fit
