Greensboro sit-ins

Freedom Riders

* May 1961 * Alabama * Non-Violent Activist * Bus terminals * Mobs of angry white southerners firebombed, beat and slashed the tires of freedom riders, for trying to challenge Jim Crow laws (segregation). *May 3rd 1963 * Birmingham, AL * Parker High School senior Walter Gadsden *Gadsen (an observer) was attacked by Police dogs. *Photo made the front page of the New York Times, on May 4th 1963

Martin Luther King I have a Dream speech.

*August 28, 1963 * Washington, D.C * March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom * 17 minute Speech, "I Have a Dream" became one of the greatest speeches in American history. The March, and especially King's speech, helped put civil rights at the top of the liberal political agenda and influenced the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
