FLANGE MATL: FLANGE SIZE: JOINT REF:

BOLT SIZE: NO. OF BOLT: NUT SIZE (A/F): 5

TO ASME VIII 1996 DIVISION 1

METHOD OF STATEMENT (BOLT TENSIONING) AND CHECK SHEET GASKET TYPE: TOOL COVERAGE : 40% of Stubs per bolting exercise BOLT TENSIONER MODEL: NUMBER OF BOLT TENSIONER: 2

The following procedure shall be carried out with reference to the appropriate "BOLT TENSIONING DATA SHEET".

Required Bolt Load: Bolt Stress at:

lbf. psi

Check " "

STEP 1 STEP 2

Number all bolts in the following order, 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5 in a clockwise direction. Select the bolt #1 with the largest flange gap. Assemble tensioning tools to 40% of the bolts in a criss-cross manner. (Bolt #1 and Bolt #3) and apply nominal pressure for box up. Then apply 1st pass pressure as specified on the "Bolt Tensioning Data". Bolt #1 and Bolt #3 Bolt #3 and Bolt #5 Bolt #5 and Bolt #2 Bolt #2 and Bolt #4

1st Pass Pressure

psi

STEP 3

Move tensioning tools to the next 40% of the bolts and apply 2nd pass pressure as specified on the "Bolt Tensioning Data". Bolt #4 and Bolt #1 Bolt #1 and Bolt #3 Bolt #3 and Bolt #5 Bolt #5 and Bolt #2

2nd Pass Pressure

psi

STEP 4

Due to the number of passes required load loss will have occurred in the process of tightening. A final pass (2nd pass pressure) is applied on all bolts. Assemble tensioning tools in the following sequent and apply 2nd pass pressure as specified on the "Bolt Tensioning Data". Bolt #2 and Bolt #4 Bolt #4 and Bolt #1 Bolt #1 and Bolt #3 Bolt #3 and Bolt #5

2nd Pass Pressure (Final)

psi

STEP 5

Using a hammer, "ring" each nut to ensure that no slack bolts are remain. At this stage the tensioning operation is said to be completed.

SAFETY CHECK

* All necessary safety precautions have been carried out. * Personnel involved in bolt tensioning are competent and fully trained in the use of bolt tensioners and tightening techniques.
