My name is Ms. Katie Peterson, and I am excited to be your English teacher for this school year. I was born and raised in San Diego, California. I attended Stanford University and graduated with a B.A. in English and an M.A. in Education. In addition to teaching English this year, I am looking forward to being a choreographer for SIs Dance Workshop and the moderator for Dance and Drill. Dance is certainly one of my passions. Hope to see you on the dance floor this year! Still, if I had to choose, my ultimate passions are reading and teaching. I believe literature is a mirror of the human experiencein all its beauty and ugliness. I appreciate that, with each book I read, I meet characters that teach me about unique experiences, about being part of a global community, and about how to be myself. My passion for being an English teacher is similar: teenagers are thinkers and dreamers with valuable, insightful, and unique views of our world and how we fit within it. I am grateful that I learn from you every day as much as, and even more than, characters in books. It is my hope that we will better understand the factors that have crafted and defined the human condition in this world. I hope it will challenge us to think about factors that affect all humans, as well as the factors that have influenced the ways we choose to live our unique and individual lives. Now that I have introduced myself, I would like you to write a formal email introducing yourself to me. In your email, please answer the following (tell me more if you would like to!): What extracurriculars are you involved in, or do you plan to join, at or outside of SI this year? What is your passion? Why? What is your strength in English? What do you find difficult about English? Who was your sophomore English teacher? On a scale of 1-5, how did you feel about your sophomore English class (5 = very easy; 3 = fine, but difficult to get the grade I wanted; 1 = very difficult)? Why? What do you hope to gain, personally, by taking this class? What else would you like me to know before we start this school year? How can I best help you succeed in English class?

Please email your response to kpeterson@siprep.org by ___:___ pm on _______________. Follow formal email formatting in your subject line and paragraphs. You may use my letter as a formatting model. I will read and respond to your email as soon as possible. I look forward to learning about what makes you you! Sincerely, Ms. Peterson
