Abstract

Introduction : Posterior capsule Opacification (PCO) is the most common complication following pediatric cataract extraction. Management for improving visual acuity on PCO is opening up of the posterior capsule using nd:YAG laser capsulotomy. One of the complication of yag laser is IOL damage that result in decreased visual acuity. Intra ocular lens exchange required to improved visual acuity. To report case undergo IOL Exchange due to complication of Nd:YAG laser.

Method : Patient male 17 years old came to eye clinic with chief complain distance and near vision blur. History with right and left eye congenital cataract and operated when he was 5 years old. Two years ago he had nd:YAG laser therapy for the PCO. Visual acuity on right eye 1/60 correction with S-5.00 became 6/60 and on left eye 1/60 correction with S-5.00 became 3/60. Posterior capsular opacity and IOL crack found on both eye. Patient planned for IOL exchange on left eye with IOL power +8.00 Dioptric. Retinometry examination found 0,6 on both eye.

Results : The visual acuity on left eye getting better after IOL exchange. Visual acuity one week after operation 6/20 and correction with S -1,00 C -0,50 become 6/12. A month after visual acuity 6/12 correction with S-1,00 become 6/10.

Conclusion : IOL can be damage cause by Nd:YAG laser on patient with PCO. IOL exchange improve visual acuity.
