Introduction Crater Lake, located in the Cascade Mountain range in Southern Oregon, is 594 meters deep, making it the

deepest lake in the United States. Here is a chart showing the depth of Crater Lake and the location of some lakes that are deeper than Crater Lake. As you can see from the chart, although Crater lake is the deepest lake in the United States, it is far from being the deepest lake in the world. We can use fractions to compare the depths of these lakes. For example, Crater Lake is approximately 2_ 5 as deep as Lake Tanganyika. In this chapter, we begin our work with fractions.
