Since 1973, President Habyarimana, a Hutu, had run a totalitarian regime in Rwanda, which ended when his plane was shot down . Soon after the Hutu took control of the government and begun the slaughter. the Rwanda genocide left approximately 800,000 Tutsis and Hutu people dead.
